Review of... The Deep Blue Cafe, at Moana Beach 41km south of Adelaide in South australia This Cafe used to be the "Moana Kiosk" that has been situated opposite the beach for many years. The proprietors have recently renovated and extended it and they keep improving the Cafe with the current theme. I would describe it as a rustic seaside Cafe with the charm of yesteryear. There is ample parking nearby and a bus stop almost outside the door. The many varied dine in meals are of generous proportion and reasonable prices. The proprietors cater for many needs, as in. ..group's, parties, beach goers or anyone who want to pop in for a meal or take away snack. Licensed beverages are available along with hot drinks and soft drinks. The service is friendly and I often gaze around and wonder where they get the unusual antique artifacts that give the Cafe a quaint ambience. Pop in, have a meal or a drink, its doesn't matter if you have come from the beach in your Cozzi (Bathers) Its the only place at Moana Beach that gives year round service. Keep an eye on the "Dine In Specials" board as they have tasty treats on offer as well as the standard menu that includes, childrens meals and Pizza. The Oknaparinga City Council has recently landscaped the Moana Beach foreshore with new lawns, plants, car parking, new toilets and showers, so... if you haven't been to visit for a while, come on down. There is a Surf Life Saving Club, right opposite the Deep Blue Cafe. Adjacent to the Deep Blue Cafe is the Moana Sands Conservation Park, its just past the Surf Life Saving Club. Moana Sands is a protected area that is of cultural significance to the Indigenous people who used to occupy the area. There are a few walking trails among the dunes, a creek seperates the Moana Sands from the Caravan Park. A bicycle/pedestrian path takes you 5km north from Moan Beach, the 4 meter wide concrete path winds its way along the cliff top to Port Noarlunga South. There is another trail that leads east along the creek, across Seaford Rise and over to Adelaides southern wine district in Maclaren Vale, an excellent bike ride or walk. (its about 9 km) In my opinion, the Deepblue Cafe is a great starting point for numerous activities. Review by Wolfram Dallwitz at Aussipix.com Update: Sturdy beach umbrellas have been erected outside on the Promenade, along with the provision of many more tables and chairs. A great place to sit and watch the world go by during the Summer months. Update October 2011: A new veranda has been built out front giving the cosmopolitan dining experience much needed shelter from the elements. The beach umbrellas are still in situ with the sturdy wind resistant bases. A top spot for beach goers or anyone who is passing by.
